About us
Born from the Land, Made to Last
Future Vintage is a Scottish knitwear brand rooted in the rhythms of nature and the heritage of local textile traditions. We believe in making clothing with meaning. Pieces that honour the past, serve the present, and are designed to be treasured for years to come.
We call it a Shepherd’s Wardrobe: clothing made to be worn, lived in, repaired, and passed down. Not treated as precious, but practical, just like the original Shetland Fair Isle and Irish Aran jumpers once were. Knitwear fit for weather, work, and the elements.
Founded in 2023 by Lindsay Girvan, Future Vintage is based on our organic farm in Linlithgow, Scotland, where our pedigree Shetland sheep graze freely and their wool is used in every collection. We work slowly, sustainably, and seasonally, creating knitwear that reflects the land, the people, and the stories that shape it.

Meet Lindsay Girvan
“I want to encourage a deep emotional and sentimental connection to Scotland; a close relationship with the land, the wool, and the hands that make each garment.”
Future Vintage was founded in 2023 by me, Lindsay Girvan.
Raised in 1960s London and deeply inspired by my artistic mother’s love of handmade textiles, I’ve always felt a strong pull toward design, craft and heritage. My mother grew up in Aberdeen, where her own mother worked in the spinning mill and her father was a warehouseman at the docks, though in his spare time, he crafted beautiful things from wood.
My father was born in Fife. His family’s roots were more nomadic—his father a travelling man, who eventually settled down in Cupar. As a boy, my dad roamed the Cairngorms dreaming of becoming a shepherd. He ended up becoming an architect, but he passed along to me his sense of adventure and his eye for shape and structure.
I’ve spent much of my life surrounded by textiles, travel and the land. I worked in the handmade Scottish textile industry for over a decade as a curator, taught at the University of Edinburgh, and earned an MBA along the way. In 1998, my husband Ben and I set up an organic food business and farm shop at Bonnytoun, our family farm, both of which are still going strong today.
These days, I’m finding new ways to connect the circular world of sustainable farming with textiles. Future Vintage is my way of bringing the handmade back to the farm—starting with the wool from our own Shetland sheep.
I love being here on the land. Feeling and smelling the seasons. Talking to the sheep. Nurturing ideas and projects that feel exciting and important. In many ways, I’ve come full circle, and now, I am the shepherd.
“I feel a deep connection to my family’s roots and ancestors, and am proud of these origins. I have always identified with Scotland’s rich cultural heritage—its crafts, its food, its landscapes, and the quiet beauty of making things by hand.”
